The NDGA team shared the honours with the Central Coast when they were declared joint winners of the Col Johnston Shield at the Junior 4 Way contested
over the weekend of Oct 31 and Nov 1 at Kurri Kurri Golf Club.
The Tournament suffered a set back when the Lower North Coast team failed to arrive. The normal format of 3 x 9 hole rounds of matchplay was modified
to suit the reduced number of teams. However, everyone got to play 27 holes of matchplay and all the feedback from the players and officials
was positive. A great weekend for everyone. The weather held off on the Saturday with only light drizzle – with Sunday foggy then fine and warm.
The only complaint registered over the weekend was about the presence of about 8 million bush flies that called Kurri GC their home.

The NDGA team, comprising emerging Juniors rather than regular District Representative Juniors contained 7 players including 10 year old Jake Riley – who
won 2 of his 3 matches, including a match where he filled in for the Central Coast.
The NDGA team also included, for the first time, a young lady Junior, namely Makenzie Toole from Belmont GC. The Central Coast team also included
a female junior and this may become the new makeup of future teams.
A special mention must go to the Newcastle team Captain, Reece Green, who won both of his matches, with a total of 2 over par score for the 2 x 9 hole
matches. His win in the final match, anchored the win over the Central Coast and enabled the NDGA team to equal the for/against score of the Central
Coast and share the title. All of our team showed good attitude and resilience irrespective of the state of their matches – and this augers
well for future NDGA District Junior teams.
