ACT Monaro Inflicts defeat on Newcastle DGA

Newcastle DGA hosted the ACT Monaro DGA on the weekend of July 9/10 as part of the David Wood Trophy which see Golf Illawarra, Central Coast DGA, ACT Monaro
DGA and Newcastle DGA play against each other every 3 years.

This year the match was held at Newcastle GC and despite heavy rain on the Friday prior, the course was presented in very good condition, and drew many
complimentary remarks from the Visitors, most of which had not played there previously.

Each team comprised 8 x Seniors, 4 x Colts and 4 x Juniors with Foursomes matchplay on Saturday afternoon followed by Singles matchplay on Sunday morning.
Lunch and a Presentation followed the golf.

The Saturday Foursomes matches saw the ACT Monaro team dominate, finishing with a score of 6.5 to 1.5.    The only win for Newcastle being recorded
in the Juniors, where District Champion, Carter Nepia teamed with Connor Benjamin to record a clear win.

Sunday’s Singles events saw a determined fightback from the Newcastle Team.   Led by the Juniors who won their Division 3.5 to 0.5 with the Colts
and Seniors recording 2 all and 4 all  results in their Divisions.

Unfortunately this still left Newcastle 2 points adrift of the ACT team with a final score of ACT Monaro 13 to Newcastle 11        A
rare away win for the ACT team and the first loss in 2 years for the Newcastle team.
