Encourage Shield Team Performs Well

The round robin  event between the Hunter River DGA, the NDGA Team and teams from the Central Coast in the JNJG Encourage Shield Series was held over
2 days on Monday/Tuesday September 25/26 at Toronto CC.

This year Teams from Singleton GC, an NDGA Composite, Central Coast Composite, Shelly Beach, Gosford, and Toukley played 5 rounds of 9 hole handicap matchplay
over the 2 days.

The event was won by the team from Toukley from the Central Coast Composite side.  It had to be decided on game results after both teams tied on match
points.

Despite finishing down the order – the NDGA team performed creditably and played the games in the right spirit.

Round 2 B & C Grade Pennants – Results

Round 2 was played on Sunday September 17 in weather perfect for golf.

Division 1 matches were played at Shortland Waters GC – with Division 2 played at Muree GC.

Disappointedly, in Division 2 B Grade the Hawks Nest team failed to field any players and forfeited to Tanilba Bay.  This followed Hawks Nest
B Grade team being penalised a match point in Round 1 – when they used a substitute player that breached the handicap requirements of  Rule
10 of the B&C Grade Pennant Rules.

Results of B & C Pennants – Round 1

The 2017 B and C Grade Pennant Series commenced on Sunday September 10 in weather ideal for golf – mild with little breeze.

Division 1 or Southern Division played at Toronto CC – with Division 2 or Northern Division played at Pacific Dunes

Many results were close – with a couple of Draws.

Disappointing to see that Merewether were only able to field 3 players in their match in C Grade Div 1.  Also Muree were a player short in their C
Grade match.

Hoping we have full fields for next week’s matches at Shortland Waters (Div 1) and Muree (Div 2) for round 2

The 2017 NSW Zone 2 Regional Championships were held over the weekend of August 19/20 at Taree GC.

Zone 2 consists of the 4 Districts – Central Coast, Hunter River, Lower North Coast and Newcastle.

The weather was difficult for good golf – with strong gusty wind and cold conditions on Saturday – and still cold and only slightly less wind on the Sunday.

The NDGA consisted of 20 players, after Brayden Petersen’s withdrawal at the last minute due to injury and they all performed very creditably.

Our best result was when Luke Ferrier was named as the 2017 Regional Junior Champion by 4 strokes with a 36 hole score of 147.

Luke Ferrier was also our best performed overall – coming 5th overall.   Next best was Mick Coutman 7th on 149, Michael Wade 8th on 150, Josh Greenwood
T17th on 155, Junior rosh Robards T20th on 156, Junior Reece Green T25th with Robert Smythe on 159, Michael Musgrave T29th on 160.

Another notable performance was from our 12 year old Junior, Brij Ingrey who improved 10 strokes to record a very good 76 on the Sunday.

In the Masters Division – the winner had 156 – with Robert Smythe T4th on 159 and Michael Musgrave 6th on 160.

In the Junior Division – Luke had 147 – with Josh Robards 6th on 156, Reece Green 7th on 159 and Brij Ingrey T9th on 162.

In the Team competition, the Jim Baker Shield, the winning team was from the Newcastle DGA, despite the Central Coast being announced the winners at the
