NDGA Rep Team Accounts for HRDGA at Merriwa

On the weekend of June 17/18 the NDGA Representative team travelled to Merriwa GC for the Annual match against the Hunter River DGA.

For many of the members of both teams, this was their first experience with sand greens – and after a brief lesson – it was game on.  Most adapted
quickly and at the end of the weekend there was generally favourable comments about the skills necessary to play on sand greens.

As was expected we were welcomed very warmly by almost the entire male membership of Merriwa GC – all 13 members.   The hospitality shown to all of
the players and officials was marvellous and appreciated by all the visitors.

This year our competition consisted of Fourball Matchplay on the Saturday with Singles Matchplay on the Sunday morning..   The weather was considerably
better than that experienced by our families on the coastal fringe with dry but cool conditions on Saturday – with a very foggy start to a magic winter’s
day on Sunday.

Newcastle DGA continued with their dominance in this event – winning 12.5 matches to 5.5

NDGA Records a Close Win over arch rivals CCDGA

Over the weekend of June 3, 4 the Newcastle DGA hosted the team from Central Coast DGA at Pacific Dunes GC.

On Saturday the teams of 6 Seniors, 4 Colts and 6 Juniors played Foursomes Matchplay.  Pacific Dunes was in great condition but the weather did not
co-operate with ever increasing showers all day.

Honours on Saturday were shared in the Senior and Colts divisions – but the Newcastle Juniors prevailed to record a 2.5 to 0.5 margin.   Overall this
meant that Newcastle enjoyed a 5 to 3 lead after Saturdays foursomes.

On Sunday the weather improved for the Singles matchplay event.  The Senior Division saw Central Coast dominate 4 matches to 2 to start the fightback
– but good wins in the Colt Division 3 to 1 and also in the Junior Division 4 to 2 – saw Newcastle prevail.

Over this weekend the teams were playing for 2 Trophies.   The Annual Match for the Artie Mollett Trophy was decided using the Sunday Results only…
In this event Newcastle regained the trophy with the score being 9 to 7.

Using the results from both days – the David Wood trophy was won by Newcastle DGA with a score of 14 to 10.

Notable performances were big wins in the Juniors singles to Jye Pickin and Luke Ferrier.  Bryce Pickin recorded a good win in the Colts Division.
Representing the District for the first time was 12 year old Brij Ingrey and he performed very well – winning his singles match 1 up and teaming
with another newcomer in Harry Cleare to square their foursomes match on the Saturday.   This augers well for the health of Junior District Representatives
in the Short to Medium term.

In Summary, a good result for Newcastle DGA in what expected to be, and was, a very close result.

2017 District Championship Won by Michael Wade

The 2017 NDGA District Championships were conducted over 18 holes at Merewether Golf Club on Sunday May 21.

The weather was good for golf with overcast mild conditions with little or no wind.   Many thanks to the greens staff as Merewether Golf Course was
presented in very good condition despite the recent rains.

136 players contested the event – a record number for the modern format for this event.

In the open Division the Winner was a very excited Michael Wade from Charlestown GC with a 3 under par score of 67. The Runner Up was local Junior Luke
Ferrier on 68 with Mark Rota from Pacific Dunes finishing 3rd with 69.

In the Senior, 55 and over, Division the Winner was Warren Gorton from Hawks Nest with 74 from Toronto’s Peter Drinkwater on 75.

The Junior Division saw local Junior Luke Ferrier prevail with a 2 under par 68 – with Waratah’s Caleb Bromley beating several more fancied Juniors to
take out the Runner Up prize with a very good round of 73.

In conjunction with these Championships – the NDGA conduct a competition between the Club Champions and Club Junior Champions  – For the Champion
of Champions Trophies   This year Junior Luke Ferrier won both of these Champion of Champions events – due to his being the Club Champion and
Junior Champion at Merewether Golf Club.   Congratulations Luke, well played.

In the Nett event held in conjunction we saw Bruce Day from Tanilba Bay with 67 on countback prevail from Luke Tranter from Muree and Rodney Hook from
Pacific Dunes.

The Team events with the best 3 of 4 scores saw Pacific Dunes run out winners with 217 in the Scratch Martin Shield event and Waratah with 218 winning
the Nett Walton Shield Event
