Round 6 of B and C Grade Pennants was held on Sunday October 23.

Beresfield played host to Division 1 teams – with Muree hosting Division 2.

The weather was not deal for golf – windy with a threat of showers .

On Saturday / Sunday October 29 / 30 the GolfNSW Country Championships and District Teams event will be held at Goulburn Golf Club.

The event involves 2 x 18 hole rounds of stroke play held on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

In our annual match against the Lower North Coast DGA the Newcastle DGA Representative Team had an easy victory 9.5 to 2.5 at Taree GC on Sunday October
16.

Each team consisted of 6 Seniors and 6 Juniors and each year we play for the Les Evitt Cup in Seniors and the Challenge Cup for Juniors.

The Juniors were outstanding, winning 5.5 to 0.5, with most matches resulting in a comfortable margin win.

The only drawn match in the Juniors involved our Luke Ferrier against State Junior and Australian Schools Team member Reid Brown.   Despite a shaky
start and being 4 down after 7, Luke fought back to be leading 1 up on the 18th tee.  Despite this fightback he went on to lose the 18th to a
birdie and thus halve an excellent match at No.1 position.

The Seniors won their Division by 4 matches to 2.  with wins to Capt Greg McMillan, Ben Hillard, Isaiah Melia and Michael Musgrave.    The
2 losses were attributed to a dodgy prawn consumed in a shared meal on Saturday night.

The weather was perfect for golf and Taree GC was in very good condition.   Consequently a good weekend was had by all.

Belmont played host to Division 1 teams – with Nelson Bay hosting Division 2.

The weather was ideal for golf – mild temps with a breeze .

Round 4 of B and C Grade Pennants was held on Sunday October 9.

Merewether played host to Division 1 teams – with Newcastle hosting Division 2.

The weather was ideal for golf – mild with light winds .

Representing the NDGA at the State Final of the NSW Men’s 4BBB Championship at Bonville were the Karuah pairing of Darren Searl and John Marlow.

After a poor minus 4 score on Day 1 they were languishing in 25th position out of 29 teams.  However, Day 2 saw a dramatic improvement, with a score
of Plus 6 – which was good enough for Runner up in  the 2nd Round.

This 10 point improvement saw them shoot up the leaderboard and finish a very creditable 10th overall. This left them 8 points behind the winning pair
from Richmond who finished with a score of plus 10.

A great week was had by all competitors – with this tournament being an amazing experience that all Club Golfers should consider participating in 2017.

On Monday and Tuesday September 26,27 a round robin tournament was held at Toronto CC to decide which Team would go through to the next round of the JNJG
run state wide Encourage Shield event.

As well as a combined team from Newcastle District we had teams from the Central Coast District and Clubs Shelley Beach and Toukley.  Hunter River
DGA was unable to field a team this year – but hope to be involved next year.

The Weather was kind for both days.  On Monday, 2 x 18 hole rounds of handicap matchplay tested both the players and caddies.  Tuesday saw just
1 x 18 hole round of handicap matchplay.

All games were played with intensity but also in the true spirit of golf.  The Newcastle team acquitted themselves very well – finishing 2nd overall
– just being shaded 3.5 to 2.5 in the deciding match against the winners Shelley Beach.

Congratulations to all involved.

both days

Transport is by own arrangements for the Seniors. An allowance will be paid to those using their private vehicles.  A small bus will be provided
to transport the Juniors.  Individuals will be contacted regarding pick up details.

Accommodation has been arranged for our group on Saturday night October 15.

Note – The tee off time is 7.30am (not the normal 9.30am as previously stated)

Players are expected to stay for the Lunch and Presentation.

Round 3 of B and C Grade Pennants held on Sunday September 25.

Shortland Waters played host to Division 1 teams – with Hawks Nest hosting Division 2.

The weather was not kind early with most games getting started in light rain – before it cleared .

Toronto Country Club will host both days with tee times from 7.30am on both days.
