2016 A Grade Pennant – Results – Round 3

Round 3 of this year’s A Grade Pennant series was held in warm and humid conditions on Sunday February 21.

Shortland Waters hosted Division 1 with Hawks Nest hosting Division 2.

The individual game scores are getting close with the Club’s match scores even closer.

Division 1 is led by Belmont despite a close loss to Toronto today when Belmont’s top order failed to fire.  Charlestown remains undefeated but still
third on a count back, after a win over Muree today – with Charlestown lower order anchoring the win.

In the other Division 1 match – last year’s pennant winner, Waratah, looked in grave danger of losing to a determined Merewether outfit.  A last hole
win for a drawn game and a close win to Waratah team captain, Greg McMillan, saw Waratah squeak home by the closest possible margin.

Division 2 saw Newcastle remain undefeated and a clear leader after a good win over Karuah.  Wins to Pacific Dunes and Nelson Bay see these Clubs
fill the second and third places respectively.

2016 A Grade Pennant – Round 2 Results

Round 2 of this year’s A Grade Pennant Series was conducted today.  Division 1 was played at Merewether Golf Club, with Division 2 at Karuah Golf
Club.

The weather was fine, light breeze but hot and humid.

Division 1 saw Belmont continue on it’s winning way, Waratah bounce back with a good win after it’s first round loss and Charlestown upset one of the fancied
teams in Toronto.

In Division 2 – Newcastle had another good win with Nelson Bay and Beresfield recording their first wins for the Series.

On a lighter note – The match between Beresfield and Tanilla Bay saw Beresfield get up 5 / 3.   It nearly did not happen, super sub, Ray Stout arrived
at the course expecting to be in a support role of caddie etc, but was included in the team at the last minute due to another members no show.  Playing
with clubs borrowed from the NDGA official on the day he won his match 5 & 3 and led Beresfield to their win.   Well done to Ray.

NDGA ORDER OF MERIT – New Competition for 2016

REVISED – Myall Autumn Classic – Saturday Event Added.    Method of allocating points clarified.

REVISED – Waratah Cup points reduced to 100

Following feedback from a number of the golfers in the District over the past year and discussions within the NDGA Executive it has been decided to introduce
an NDGA Order of Merit Competition during 2016. The competition will be based solely on points awarded for performances at various Club Open Major
Events and NDGA events between February and November 2016.

It is the intention that this competition will replace the Stroke Average based District Vardon Event.

The main objectives of this competition are: 1) to promote Golf in the District, particularly participation of elite golfers in Club Open Major Events;
2) to recognize outstanding performances within the District in these events; 3) to use the results to assist with selection for NDGA representative
teams.

The competition will commence with the first scheduled Club Open event in 2016, which is the Karuah Cup on February 6 and will conclude at the Beresfield
Bowl, on November 19.

A trophy for the winner and significant voucher prizes will be awarded to the first three positions at the conclusion of the competition.

B & C Pennants – Winners Decided

Congratulations Nelson Bay GC and Belmont GC – as the winners of this year’s B & C Grade Pennants respectively.

The Pennant Finals were played at Horizons GC on Sunday November 29.  The weather changed from cloudy early to fine and breezy in the later stages
of the matches.

The B Grade Final saw Nelson Bay GC matched against Newcastle GC.   Unfortunately, Newcastle were only able to field 5 eligible players and were thus
disadvantaged from the outset.

Nelson Bay’s team was not diverted by distractions on the day and proved their status of being a focused, well organised team and ran out easy winners
– with a score of 6 to nil.

Congratulations to the Nelson Bay team members and officials.

Nelson Bay - 2015 B Pennant Winners

The C Grade Final saw Charlestown GC pitted against Belmont GC .

Despite a couple of close game results – Belmont did enough to record a win – with a score of 4 to 2.

Again, congratulations to the Belmont team members and officials.

District Championships – Full Report

The 2015 NDGA District Championships were held over 27 holes at Belmont Golf Club on Sunday November 22.

The weather was favourable with cloudy but dry conditions throughout the day.  Belmont golf course was presented in excellent condition and thanks
must go to the course staff as well as the ProShop and Club staff that assisted with the staging of this event.

With Qualification for A Grade pennants re-introduced this year, requiring Clubs to field a minimum of 6 players, the field size was expected to increase
from previous years – but it was pleasing to see 146 on the timesheet and 131 taking their place in the field.

Brayden Petersen won his first District Champion title with a one under score of 107.  Defending Champion, Blake Windred, edged out Greg McMillan
on a count back on 108 for the Runner-Up position.

Blake Windred defended his Junior District Champion title in what will be his last year in the Junior division.  Josh Cook was runner-up on 113.

The Senior District Champion was Les Oliver from Newcastle GC on 117 – from Greg Kent, Charlestown, on 123 in a count back.
