JUNIOR PENNANTS – Round 4 Update

Round 4 and final round of the Junior Pennants was held at Charlestown GC on Sunday July 12.

The weather was very cool with strong winds making scoring difficult. Charlestown GC was well presented following repairs after recent wet and
windy weather

A disappointing low of 14 players teed off with only 1 team fielding the full complement of 6 players . In the scratch teams event the Port Stephens
team returned to the winners circle with a score of 331 with Merewether on 1266 and Belmont on 1290.

In the Nett Teams event, Port Stephens prevailed with a score of 278 from Merewether on 1226 and Belmont on 1246.

In the individual events the best Scratch score went to Luke Ferrier with a par round of 72.. The best nett score for the 4th Consecutive round went to
Andrew Lange with 68 completing his clean sweep of the nett events

JUNIOR PENNANTS – FINAL RESULTS

The 2015 Junior Pennant Series concluded with Round 4 – held at Charlestown on Sunday July 12.

The only team to field a full team in each of the 4 rounds, Port Stephens, were rewarded by being a clear winner of the Scratch Teams event and taking
the Merv England Trophy.  The Belmont team finished second.

The players that represented Port Stephens this year were – Connor Benjamin, Harry Cleare, Andrew Lange, Jaylin Lilly, Carter Nepia, Harry Richards, Elijah
Startin and Callum Gascoigne.

In the Nett Team event, Port Stephens again posted the best score – with Belmont declared the winner of the Merv England Shield.

Players that represented Belmont include – Rhys Ballinger, Mitchell Ellison, Joshuaa Robards, Brianna Robards, Makensie Toole and Kiana Toole.

Individual Order of Merit events for both Scratch and Nett were also conducted during the Pennant Series.

In the Scratch event, a consistent effort over the 4 rounds saw Harry Richards, from Nelson Bay, rewarded by winning the Order of Merit trophy. In
a close event, Josh Cook, from Merewether, finished second.

The Nett event saw a runaway win to Andrew Lange, from Nelson Bay, with Harry Richards and Harry Cleare, from Nelson Bay.   Andrew completed
a clean sweep by winning the nett event at all 4 rounds to consolidate his dominance in this event.

JUNIOR PENNANTS – Round 3 – UPDATE

Round 3 of the Junior Pennants was held jointly with the Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Championships at Waratah GC on Monday July 6.

The weather was cool but fine and Waratah GC was in reasonable condition, given the recent wet weather.

Toronto was finally able to field a full team and this resulted in them recording a win in the Gross event with a score of 331.  They were closely
followed by Port Stephens on 344 and Belmont on 347.

In the Nett Teams event, Toronto also prevailed with 278, from Port Stephens on 279 and Belmont on 291.

In the individual events the best Scratch score was a close affair with Josh Cook and Harry Richards having 78 with Luke Ferrier on 79.  The best
nett score for the 3rd Consecutive round went to Andrew Lange with 67 with Brij Ingrey and Jacob Dundas both having a nett 68.

NDGA Rep Team Convincing Win over Golf Illawarra

 The NDGA representative team travelled to Shellharbour on the weekend of July 4 & 5 for their David Wood trophy match against Golf Illawarra.

Each team was comprised of 8 x Seniors, 4 x Colts and 4 x Juniors and played Foursomes matchplay on the Saturday with Singles matchplay on the Sunday.

The NDGA team was victorious by the convincing margin of 14.5 matches to 9.5.

The Colts and Juniors, both had clear cut Division wins on both days to setup the teams push for victory.  Several of the Senior matches were drawn
or very close wins to close out the Newcastle win.

One notable achievement on the weekend was by Colt, Joe D’Arcy who started strongly in his Sunday Singles match , when he was 5 under par after 6 – going
on to an easy win 7 and 6.

NDGA School Boys & Girls Championships

The 2015 NDGA Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Championships were conducted at Waratah Golf Club on Monday July 6.

38 Juniors, ranging in ages from 8 to 17 contested the event this year in cool, dry weather.  Course conditions were not ideal with some very wet
areas and long rough.

The Schoolboys Champion was Corey Lamb from St Joseph’s, Lochinvar with a scratch score of 75.

Makensie Toole from Belmont Christian College, successfully defended the title she won last year to be the Schoolgirls Champion with a Scratch score
of 85.

In conjunction with this event the NHDLGA conduct the Junior Girl’s District Championship

Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Championships – Draw Released

This Year’s NDGA Schoolboys and Schoolgirls Championships will be held on Monday July 6 at Waratah Golf Club.

Tee off times start at 8.00am.  Entry Fee will be $20 and this will include a light lunch and drink.

Also being contested on this day will be the NHDLGA Junior Girls Championship.

Late entries for all these events will be accepted right up until the day.

Newcastle Successful in Match against Hunter River

Newcastle DGA Representative Team continued on their winning ways in their annual match against the Hunter River District Team.

The NDGA had it’s second clear win of the year after it’s convincing win over Newcastle GC in the season opening Peter Porter Cup.

In the Match against Hunter River held at Singleton GC on a cool Sunday June 21 – the Newcastle team were successful by a margin of 8.5 to 3.5.

Newcastle won the Seniors division by 4.5 to 1.5 and also the Juniors division by 4 to 2

In individual matches – Brayden Petersen prevailed in the No. 1 match over Dylan Perry with a 1 up win.  Ben Hillard had a clear win over Mick Hanly
by 7 & 6 and was assisted by wins to Greg McMillan and Mick Coutman to set up the win by Newcastle.

In the Junior Individual matches – Blake Windred had a decisive win over Josh Tracey by 7 & 6.  Wins to Carter Nepia Josh Cook and newcomer Harry
Richards anchored the Newcastle victory.

JUNIOR PENNANTS – Order of Merit – Progress Scores after Round 2

With 2 of the 4 Rounds of this year’s Junior Pennants having been completed the leaders in the Gross and Nett Order of Merit competition have started to
streak ahead of the field.

In the Gross Order of Merit, Connor Benjamin from Port Stephens leads from Harry Richards from Port Stephens. Makenzie Toole from Belmont and Josh Cook
from Merewether are next in 3rd place.

In the Nett Order of Merit event, Andrew Lange from Port Stephens having won both rounds clearly leads from Tom De Groot from Merewether.  Port Stephens
pair of Connor Benjamin and Harry Cleare are next in 3rd place.

NDGA REPRESENTATIVE TEAM For ILLAWARRA MATCH

This Event is part of a Tri-Series between Newcastle DGA, Golf Illawarra and ACT Monaro DGA, playing for the David Wood Trophy.

This Event’s venue has been changed from The Grange due to ongoing storm damage repairs. It will now be held at The Links Shell Cove at Shellharbour.

The format for the 2 day event will be Foursomes on Saturday afternoon and Singles matchplay on Sunday morning. Teams will consist of 8 x Seniors, 4 x
Colts and 4 x Juniors.

 

Transport Arrangements – Team bus will leave Waratah GC at 6.30am on Saturday July 4 – Returning on Sunday July 5 at 8.00pm. Accommodation
will be at the Comfort Inn Fairways, Primbee     (Adj Port Kembla GC)

JUNIOR PENNANTS – Round 2 – UPDATE

Newcastle GC was in excellent Condition and the weather near perfect for Round 2 of this year’s Junior Pennants

Port Stephens Composite team continued on their winning ways with a score of 330 lead from Belmont on 355 and Waratah on 402 – in the Gross score event.

In the Nett Teams event, Port Stephens again won this round with 279, from Belmont on 296 and Toronto on 330.

In the Individual Gross and Nett events, held in conjunction, Harry Richards from Port Stephens had the best Gross score with 76, while Andrew Lange from
Port Stephens ,having his first game at Newcastle, again won the Nett event with 67.

Next Round will be held in conjunction with the NDGA Schoolboys and Schoolgirls Championships on Monday July 6 at Waratah GC. Check the website for the
Draw for Round 3 in the week prior.
