A GRADE PENNANT – Finals Results

WARATAH AND MEREWETHER WIN THEIR DIVISION’s FINAL IN THIS YEAR’S A GRADE PENNANT SERIES.

Rain showers and windy weather made golf difficult for this yea’s Finalists, played at Belmont GC. Belmont GC was in excellent condition, despite the weather,
to host Waratah and Toronto in Division 1 with Merewether and Shortland Waters in Division 2.

WARATAH WINS 4th STRAIGHT TITLE

Div 1 Winners - Waratah

Waratah’s stranglehold on this event  continued with their 4th consecutive win of the Division 1 Pennant.  This year they defeated Toronto
in a closer match than the scores indicated.  The final score was 5.5 to 2.5.  Wins to Brian Carmichael, Mick Coutman and Capt Greg McMillan
set the foundation for the win but it was strong finishes and close wins by Ben Hillard and John Georgalis that swung the result in Waratah’s
favour.  Toronto was far from disgraced with wins to Robert Smythe and Jai Forrester – and still remains the team most likely to break Waratah’s
dominance of this event.

MEREWETHER VICTORIOUS IN DIVISION 2 FINAL

Div 2 Winners - Merewether

Merewether prevailed over Shortland Waters 5 games to 3.  Good wins at the top of the order to David Cook, Craig Jones and Josh Cook  set
the platform for the win.  Further wins to Ben Flaherty and M.Sullivan sealed the win.  Shortland Waters had wins to Capt Mick Albee, Luke
Iredale and Glen Laws in the middle of the order

2015 A GRADE PENNANT – Finals

The 2015 A Grade Pennant finalists have been decided.  Following the conclusion of round 7 of this year’s event the results were very close on both
Divisions.

A count back of games were required in Division 1 after a drawn match in the last round saw Belmont and Toronto equal on 4 match points.  Toronto,
by virtue of a game score of 30 game points to Belmont’s 28 game points were declared the second team to join Waratah, who finished undefeated on
5.5 match points,  in the Division 1 Final.

Division 2 was a very close affair with Merewether finishing undefeated on top with 5 match points. In close pursuit were Shortland Waters on 4.5
match points, and Hawks Nest on 4 match points.  The hard luck story belongs to Pacific Dunes, who were undefeated after 5 rounds, only to
fail to score any match points in the final 2 rounds to fall out of contention.

This left Merewether and Shortland Waters to contest the Final for the Division 2 Pennant.

The Final for both Divisions has been scheduled to be held at Belmont Golf Club on Sunday March 22

Division 2 Final (Merewether and Shortland Waters) will tee off from 7.24am

Division 1 Final (Waratah and Toronto) will tee off from 7.52am.

NDGA Officials for the day will be Paul Cortaville and Rod Carruthers.

A GRADE PENNANT – Results Round 7

Round 7, the last round, of this year’s A Grade Pennant was played today in showery weather.  Newcastle GC hosted Division 1 with Karuah GC hosting
Division 2.

In Division 1 – Clear cut wins were recorded by Waratah and Muree over Charlestown and Beresfield respectively whilst the decisive match between Toronto
and Belmont resulted in a 4 all draw.  This meant that both Belmont and Toronto finished with 4 match points each.

This necessitated a count back to decide the Club to join Waratah in the final, with Toronto prevailing by 2 game points.

In Division 2 – Previous front runners Pacific Dunes lost a close match to Hawks Nest.  Merewether and Shortland Waters had good wins over Nelson
Bay and Tanilba Bay respectively.

With 2 losses in the last 2 rounds saw Pacific Dunes fall out of the race for a finals berth.  Merewether with 5 match points will be joined by Shortland
Waters, 4.5 points, in the Division 2 final.

Summary

In accordance with the current rules, Beresfield and Newcastle will be the 2 Clubs relegated to Division 2 for next year’s Pennant Series.

Merewether and Shortland Waters will be the 2 Division 2 Clubs promoted to Division 1 for next year.

A GRADE PENNANT – Results Round 6

Round 6 of this year’s A Grade Pennant was played at Muree for Division 1 and Hawks Nest for Division 2 in ideal weather conditions.

Division 1.     In the top of the table clash between perennial finalists Waratah and Toronto saw Waratah prevail in a close match
5 to 3.  Charlestown had an easy win over Beresfield.   A decisive win to Belmont over Newcastle by 6.5 to 1.5 has kept alive their hopes
of reaching the final.  Belmont must beat Toronto in next weeks final round to achieve this, however.

Division 2.   In a critical match Merewether defeated Pacific Dunes 5.5 to 2.5.  Other matches saw Nelson Bay have a win over Tanilba
Bay and Karuah and Shortland Waters played out a 4 all Draw.

With only one round remaining, the leaderboard has become congested with Merewether leading on 4 points, from Pacific Dunes and Shortland Waters on 3.5
points.  Hawks Nest is still thereabouts on 3 points.   Should be an interesting last round next week.
