Pennant Dinner and OOM & District Champs Presentation

On December 2, 2017 – 68 Officials, Players and partners attended the B&C Pennant Dinner at Muree GC.

A good night was had, due in no small part, to the wonderful 3 course dinner proved by the Club.

This year’s B&C Pennant Dinner will be the last in this format – as next year we move to an overall Presentation night – including the A Grade Pennant,
B&C Grade Pennant and major District Events presentation night.  So this year we incorporated the presentation for the District Order of Merit

This year was a big year for the Nelson Bay GC – winning both the B and C Grade Pennants for 2017. This was the final event for their Pennants Manager,

The C Grade Final saw a comfortable win for the team from Nelson Bay over the perennial bridesmaids Charlestown.  Big wins to Darren Handcock and
Barry Elliott anchored the Nelson Bay victory

As expected, the final of B Grade was a much closer affair.

With Newcastle leading 3 to 2 – the result hinged on the No.1 match between Nelson Bay’s Leigh Messner and Newcastle’s John Theaker.   Leigh Messner
then won the 18th hole – and clinched the 3rd point for Nelson Bay when he won the 19th hole.   The teams tied on 3 games each.

The sudden death playoff was then conducted between Leigh Messner from Nelson Bay and Chris Wratten from Newcastle – with Leigh Messner winning the 1st
playoff hole with a boey 5 to the 6 recorded by Chris Wratten.

Nelson Bay completed the clean sheet – winning both B and C Grade Pennants

JNJG State Junior Pennant – NDGA Team Gallant in Defeat

After defeating a team from the Hunter River DGA in their previous match – the NDGA team played the next round against Shelly Beach GC on Saturday October
28 at Waratah GC.

The format for this event is you play in handicap order with the first 2 players playing matchplay without the benefit of handicap – and the other 4 play
handicap matchplay.

With good wins to Jacob Dundas, Brij Ingrey and Caleb Bromley saw the teams tied at 3 all after the games were completed.  Despite playing very well
in his match against Jordan Garner, our Josh Robards went down 3 and 2.

With both teams tied – a sudden death playoff then took place between the No.1 players – Jordan Garner from Shelly Beach and Josh Robards from Newcastle.

Jordan was erratic for the first 3 holes, whilst Josh played a very steady game – before Josh visited the trees on the 4th playoff hole and Jordan closed
out the match

A win to the boys from Shelly Beach and we wish them the best of luck in their next match against a team from the Central West area.

The NDGA team did us proud, with their golf and their attitude and I could not be prouder of their behavior after the disappointment of a close defeat.
Special mention to Josh Robards who played very well and certainly extended his more fancied opponent.
